How utterly REPUGNANT of the author to stoop so low as to bring race into it and to accuse me and Paul of such revolting ignorance. Does she seriously believe that either of us would let a "dodgy foreign name" (HER words remember, not mine) cloud our judgement in a matter so serious? The author of course wouldn't know that I have a cousin of the same name (Walid) but there is a tiny clue in my own name as to my heritage, which is similar to Waleed's. I, like I believe he is, am of British/Arab descent. British mother, Arab father just like Waleed.
I suffered from racial abuse the same as I imagine he did all through growing up and now, even 30 yrs down the line, my daughter is occasionally subjected to it. So I personally take great exception. You really could not accuse either of us of anything worse.

I hope the author will retract this vile, disgusting and reprehensible accusation and feels ASHAMED of herself for being ignorant enough to even think it.
