Having, in my last Take, commented on the quietness of the weekend, Monday blew that out of the water. On the Controversy site, it was made a big thing that a well-known 'pro' had joined so that the members could 'debate and discuss' the various aspects of the Madeleine McCann case. Now, you would have thought any sane and rational thinking person would jump at the idea. Well, you would be very wrong. It was a lynch mob, braying and screaming like banshees. They descended from all sides, insulting and deriding the poor woman, who wasn't able to get a word in edgeways, but in all this she remained dignified and calm. There was no attempt to discuss or explain anything - in fact it resembled a load of harpies with only one intention, to destroy someone who DARED to disagree with them. Discussion is just that, an exchange of views and opinions, it is NOT demands for links (a favorite anti ploy when losing the argument) and then screaming when these were not provided. The links to any claims from any side are available to one and all. Then there were feeble 'pleas' from Admin to calm down, which were ignored and on it went for hours. Finally, and inevitably, the thread was closed, the pro banned and the thread deleted - but not before it had been disseminated all over the forums. I don't know what Admin's agenda was but all it managed to do was show readers how dysfunctional her members are and how closed their minds are to anything other than the propoganda fed to them. Or maybe they are afraid their theories and conspiracies are no more than just pie in the sky, fueled by narrow-minded, bigoted know-it-alls. You decide.
