    Amaral's other good friends:
     http://algarvedailynews.com/news/4699-portimao-council-audit-reveals-several-irregularities

Portimão council is undergoing an extraordinary inspection by the General Inspectorate of Finanças which is looking into Portimao Urbis.

The ex-Mayor Manuel da Luz, Deputy Mayor Luis Carito and Councillor Jorge Campos already have been arrested and accused of financial crimes and if the government audit into Manuel da Luz's period of rule is anything like the independent one commissioned by Isilda Gomes, criminal charges will have a good prospect of sticking.
Amaral really is unlucky in his choice of friends, isn't he? And Lovely Sofa (his now-ex-wife) in her choice of employer.

Morais and co have hidden all this from the Amaralan club, so we really must do our best to enlighten them. We like to be helpful!

The deputy mayor of Portimão Luís Carito already is famous in Portugal’s legal history as the man who swallowed the evidence, literally.

When Carito's house was being searched by police this week he snatched a document from the hands of a surprised officer and ate it, the document, not the hand.

    And how about this?

Paulo Pereira Cristóvão and the lawyer João Grade had dinner. The mayor of Portimão and his deputy attended the toast on the street.

Do many people send out embossed party invitations to total strangers who unfortunately turn out to be crooks? Or is it only Amaral this keeps happening to?

ETA - so pleased to see the evidence-eating deputy mayor was also invited to the birthday bash.

That's the one that led to CdM having to make an apology to Marcos Correia, as he was the victim, not the aggressor, as falsely alleged by the gang of criminals.

Paulo Pereira Cristovao goes to Socrates chain

    By Sylvia Boss

Former PJ and former vice president of Sporting will await trial in custody Évora chain

Paulo Pereira Cristovao, former Inspector of Judicial Police (PJ) and former vice president of Sporting will await trial in custody, the Prison of Évora, the chain that is also arrested Jose Socrates. Another of the three detainees on Tuesday - one of the leaders in the fanclub Sporting Juve Leo, known as "Mustafa" - is also in custody but in another prison. Only the third suspect, Nuno Lobito, was released. The decision was taken by judge Carlos Alexandre after several days of interrogation.

Paulo Pereira Cristovao is indicted for theft crimes and kidnapping. It is suspected to choose and monitor some of the victims of a conspiracy. Some of the network suspects had been arrested in the past year.

Former Vice Sporting Godinho Lopes in the mandate is in custody on the eve of starting to be tried for seven crimes: is accused, among other things, to have set up a trap to the referee Joseph Cardinal to come to incriminate for corruption. The trial is scheduled for April 8 in the criminal courts of Lisbon.

Paulo Pereira Cristovao began his career as safety of Sporting, after having risen to inspector. Passed for combating banditry and, later, the unit investigating economic crimes. It was one of those chosen to investigate the disappearance of Joana Cipriano, in Portimão, in 2004, and would sit in the dock, accused of attacks on Joana's mother, Leonor Cipriano. He was acquitted. Two years later, surrounded by disciplinary proceedings, eventually to resign.

When out of the PJ, Cristovao opens a business intelligence company, founds a Missing Children Association and starts writing books - some of them, like the one dealt with the investigation into the disappearance of Joana - were bestsellers.

Running for president of Sporting, loses, and later was invited by Godinho Lopes to be the vice president who had the responsibilities, among others, safety issues and cheerleading.

Good comment on hater squirming to try and cover up the revelations.
With regard to Cristovao's arrest this week. If it was DCI Redwood who it was revealed not only had a conviction for perjury, but was also in the habit of keeping company with an ex policeman now arrested for serious crimes (including kidnapping) - then I doubt that any comments made here would be so quickly dismissed as 'propaganda' by yourself. The implications of such an arrest/association would probably be the main topic of conversation by sceptics here - and the lynchmobbers would be out in force elsewhere. But I'm sure you already know that.

Former head of the Sporting will await trial in jail of Évora. It is suspected of robbery and kidnapping. Lawyer will appeal (in development)

Carlos Alexandre judge ruled there are times when the most severe coercive measure to Paulo Pereira Cristovao, former vice president of Sporting who is indicted for theft and kidnapping crimes. The suspect, who has been inspector of the Judicial Police, will be in custody chain of Évora, where the former prime minister José Sócrates.

Mustafa, leader of the Leonine Youth Cheerleader, will also be in custody. A third suspect, Nuno Lobito, also connected to the cheerleader, is the one who will release pending trial.

The three detainees are suspected of links to a group of 12 assailants residences, which included three members of the PSP and was dismantled last summer. According to research, Christopher Pereira chose the targets that were then assaulted by the group. Did not participate in all the assaults.

When I was in PJ Pereira Cristovao was accused of torturing Leonor Cipriano, suspected of killing her own daughter. He was acquitted. He left the police after being involved in several disciplinary procedures for harassment and the alleged misuse of money seized in operations.

Later, when he was director of Sporting, was accused of setting up a trap to the referee Joseph Cardinal. The trial began in the summer.

We knew all about the theft of money from the PJ, and the rape allegations when Cristovao was in the PJ, etc.

So, why didn't Montclair and co? Are we supposed to believe that a supersleuth like Amaral didn't know ALL about his co-defendant in the torture trial?

Paulo Pereira Cristóvão , once a PJ Chief Inspector, arrested for armed robbery - Page 2 Crista10

Of course they all knew! And turned a blind eye as long as the thug was riding high. Now they're all frantically trying to pretend they didn't know Cristovao, never heard of him, didn't even recognise the name.

It's utterly pathetic.    Paulo Pereira Cristóvão , once a PJ Chief Inspector, arrested for armed robbery - Page 2 3077217049

Maybe Montclair and co are panicking because now Cristovao is finally behind bars, he won't be able to intimidate/bribe/blackmail anyone into silence? And all sorts of nasty things are going to come out about Team Amaral before this is over?

In 2013, the GNR expelled 22 elements, the PSP 13, the Prison Guard 10 and the Judicial Police two. Are effective dismissed for participation in crimes of corruption to theft

Paulo Pereira Cristovao, the former inspector of the Judicial Police unit that fights banditry and organized crime, who yesterday was in custody (see box) was arrested by former colleagues on suspicion of participation in a gang of armed robbers in that included elements of the PSP. In the middle of Joana case of the scandal in which he was accused and acquitted of the child from the mother to the crime of torture, Leonor Cipriano, Christopher Pereira asked the dismissal of the PJ, police which left eight years ago.

But Paulo Pereira Cristovao, who is also former head of Sporting, is only the latest high-profile case of a former police arrested for alleged participation in crimes. Have been the dozen cases in recent years. In 2013 and 2014, were expelled 47 elements of PSP forces, GNR, Judicial Police and Prison Guard (this is not a criminal police force but a security framework). Experts in the criminal mind as Carlos Poiares and Carlos Ademar justify these cases with ease, the system of knowledge and the feeling of impunity that these elements have.

According to official data provided by the various forces to DN, the proportion of expulsions ordered in the following cases already closed for crimes such as corruption, extortion, drug trafficking or robbery, was as follows: 22 in GNR expelled or dismissed elements (16 in 2013 and six in 2014), the PSP were 13 (ten agents and three heads); the Prison Guard were 10 (and in three of these situations expelled guards were not punished in court) and the criminal police there were two expulsions.

While the police investigated, Paulo Pereira Cristovao created an association of social solidarity that gave support to the homeless, began a Templar order and tried to launch a commandery in Lisbon to attract influential people.

In October 2014, the former head of Sporting, you know the Sol, started a Templar order, a cavalry organization. But soon came into conflict with officials of the institution and eight weeks after eventually came out. Before that, tried to create and lead a commandery in Lisbon (group of Templars), wanting to add influential people to increase and strengthen your network of contacts.

However, and before the news of his arrest, the leaders of the Knights Templar are examining the case to decide whether the expel of the organization. If this happens, Pereira Cristovao will appear in a public list with the names of all the expelled members and the reasons for the decision.

By the middle of his foray into the world of the Templars, Paulo Pereira Cristovao constituted in November, a humanitarian association: it is called A Time For Others (UHPO) and distributes hot meals to the homeless. It also promotes other support (such as medical and health care to needy), sponsored by personalities from the art world and football. The defendant created the organization with a group of friends, including Anabela Melão, a businesswoman who went with him to the Templar order.

"It's very nice and composed. Knowing him socially, do not think you can do what the accused, "said a person with whom he deprived lately, recalling that he had a captivating personality and could not resist to show their power and influence," Do not hide that did part of the underworld, which maintains contacts for being the Judicial Police and get the information you want about who you want."

Acquitted of torture and spy suspect

So far, the only shadow hovering over the life of Pereira Cristovao is to have created a spy network to players and referees, when he was vice president of Sporting. He knew everything they did, since the nights financial debt, using companies, one of them headed by a former employee in your Primuslex, company that created when he left the PJ to business intelligence. The espionage suspicions arose during the research that has been accused of forging a bribe to the assistant referee Jose Cardinal, a case awaiting trial.

Moreover, was acquitted of torture charges against Leonor Cipriano, Joana's mother (a child who disappeared in the Algarve), became media commenting on cases of police on television, created the Portuguese Association of Missing Children with friend and lawyer Pragal Colaco, whom he incompatibilizou, and became, according to his profile on Linkedin network administrator in a company based in Luxembourg that provides consultancy in the area of football. He wrote five books, three of them on missing children: Joanna, Maddie and Rui Pedro (missing in Lousada). In the remaining works, one is on the profile cases of national football and the other a novel about the dark and corrupt side of the PJ.

    http://www.sol.pt/noticia/126558
He'd certainly be an expert on the dark and corrupt side of the PJ, wouldn't he?

Beyond funny - after all the gibbers the Amaral Fan Club has come out with about the McCanns and Masons, turns out that yet another of their idols is one of the funny handshake squad.

I suppose they do know that disgraced ex-mayor Moita Flores also likes to boast about being a leading Mason in Portugal?

Former PJ police detective Paulo Pereira Cristóvão has been ordered to await trial and a series of criminal charges behind bars. Among the charges faced by Cristovão are armed robbery, criminal association and kidnapping.

Paulo Pereira Cristóvão , once a PJ Chief Inspector, arrested for armed robbery - Page 2 PAULO_CRISTOVA_O_1

The decision, reached last Friday, comes after his arrest last week as his former colleagues drew nearer to concluding an investigation initiated in July 2014 related to a series of criminal charges. Up until last week week, investigations had resulted in the arrest of 12 people, including three PSP police officers.

The Former Polícia Judiciária (PJ) detective and ex-Sporting Vice President Paulo Pereira Cristovão gained international widespread prominence after authoring a book, Estrela da Madeleine (Madeleine’s Star) in which he analyses the disappearance of Madeleine McCann from her holiday apartment almost eight years ago.

Cristovão, also a former president of the Portuguese Association for Missing Children, has been linked to these 12 suspects and is said to have worked at “identifying potential victims who would then be robbed inside their homes. These robberies would be undertaken by police officers simulating house searches, armed with forged legal warrants. On occasion, these searches would be conducted by officers dressed in their respective uniforms”, culminating in robberies, PJ sources said following the announcement of Cristovão’s arrest.

Ex-PJ high-flyer joins Sócrates “sitting it out” in Évora jail

The case that suggests corruption within Portugal’s law enforcement agencies is still very much alive now sees former PJ high-flyer Paulo Pereira Cristóvão behind bars and awaiting trial for aggravated robbery, kidnapping (three counts) and criminal association.

Following three days of interrogation at Lisbon’s central court of criminal instruction, Cristóvão and alleged associate Nuno Vieira - better known as ‘Mustafa’, the leader of Sporting’s youth league “Juventude Leonina” - were both informed they would be facing eventual trial from incarceration in preventive custody.

Cristóvão is understood to have been “confident that he would leave (the court) in freedom”.

According to news reports last night, he continued to “deny any involvement in the world of crime” throughout the lengthy hours of interrogation.

What appears to have worked against him, however, was the alleged confession of ‘Mustafa’, confirming involvement in at least one of the crimes for which he stands accused.

‘Mustafa’ is understood to have incriminated Cristóvão, and thus the decision late on Friday by judge Amélia Correia de Almeida to remand both men in custody.

As widely explained in the Portuguese media, Cristóvão is understood to have been the intelligence behind a criminal network that raided the homes of wealthy businesspeople in and around Lisbon and Setúbal - on at least three occasions even posing as policemen.

According to media reports, the targets were all picked after detailed “espionage” mounted by Pereira into how much in gold and valuables could expect to be found on the premises.

The gang is understood to have included at least three PSP agents - all of whom were rounded up in a swoop that saw 12 people arrested last summer.

With the detention now of Cristóvão, Mustafa and well-known photographer Nuno Lobito (who remains free on his own recognisance to answer the single charge of adhesion to a criminal association), the investigation is thought to be near conclusion.

But as he sits it out in Évora jail - sharing the premises with the country’s most high-profile ‘prisoner-without-charge’ former Socialist prime minister José Sócrates - what has caused such a stir in this case is not so much that Cristóvão was a former inspector in the Polícia Judiciária, but that he has also held top positions as vice-president of Portugal’s legendary Sporting Football Club and president of the country’s association of missing children (APCD).

He is still in fact facing prosecution over an investigation into corruption during his time at Sporting.

Caso Cardinal - again implicating Cristóvão in elaborate espionage, money laundering and fraud - saw the 45-year-old resign from his job, be slapped with a 15-month ban from sporting activity and fined €3000. And that was before the case even came to court.

The “Cardinal” trial is scheduled to open in Lisbon next month.

Cristóvão is understood to be blaming this latest arrest on “vengeance” directed against him by former colleagues at the PJ.

Like his record at Sporting, Cristóvão’s years at the PJ were not without controversy.

In 2009, he and another two colleagues were accused of torture. It was an accusation that failed to stick. The ‘victim’ Leonor Cipriano - mother of eight-year-old Joana Cipriano, the child who went missing without trace from her home in Figueira, in the Algarve, in 2004 - most certainly did suffer injuries while being held by Faro’s PJ, but the court ruled that it could not prove who had caused them.

Leonor Cipriano is still serving jail-time for the murder of her daughter, whose body was never found.

Cristóvão meantime was ready to move on.

Sol website writes today (Saturday) that the torture case was not the only blot on his record at the PJ. There were “various situations” that failed to be explained and “one disciplinary process opened after a girl - victim of a case he was investigating - accused him of sexual coersion. The case was withdrawn and the process archived”.

On leaving the PJ to become, briefly, president of the ACPD, Cristóvão wrote his version of the facts of the Cipriano case in a book entitled “A Estrela de Joana”.

Curiously, he also penned “A Estrela do Madeleine” shortly afterwards - which he described as “the opportunity to say that which until now has not been written and essentially which no one has thought or had the courage to reveal”.

Observador website writes the book led the parents of Madeleine, Kate and Gerry McCann, to lodge a case against him, but details of this remain vague. Certainly, his book did not gain the notoriety of that of former PJ colleague Gonçalo Amaral - who the McCann’s went on to sue for €1.2 million. The verdict on this long-running case is expected any day now.

Intriguingly, readers of Cristóvão’s book - still freely available online - were very enthusiastic about its message.

Said one: “Without wishing to detract from Gonçalo Amaral and “The Truth of the Lie” - a book I love and a man I find an inspiration - I actually think this book is better.”

It remains to be seen if Cristóvão will now embark on a book to explain this latest case in his remarkably colourful career.
