Thanks to Myths for this post and for the great title!!
Tigerloaf:
Once again, the Bitter Man from Harlow pokes his head over the parapet and tries to claim responsibility for something which has occurred.
So a cop retires after a normal length of service which has seen him rise from the rank of Constable to that of ACC, Kent and Bennett (who never managed more than a tiny fraction of that length of service in any of the occupations he tried out and spectacularly failed in) tries to smear the man's reputation and take some kind of sick credit for his retirement from the force.
Only somebody with a truly peculiar understanding of his own role in society (such as Bennett) could even begin to attempt such a nonsensical claim.
People retire, Mr Bennett. Or didn't that occur to you as you never had the chance to experience such a pleasant end to any of the careers you failed in?

Just caught piece on BBC1 Breakfast with Former Det Hamish Brown. Mr Brown doesn't speak very positively about the Portuguese police.
"They haven't had the best PR really in this". "They're going to bring their local knowledge their knowledge of Portuguese" "most importantly the hope it's going to bring to the Mccans and their supporters and people around the world"
"also was a problem was the haphazzard way the inquiry was carried out in the first instance" "bear in mind the Portuguese police internationally have come out of this appallingly" "well yes the DNA the scene wasn't properly analyzed, it wasn't roped off at the time, it was re-let, that's utterly appalling actually" "was someone watching the premises from across the road" "are there cigarette ends which could have been picked up".
Not only are they all 'singing from the same hymn sheet', they must have printed hundreds of thousands of copies of it.
It is becoming a bit like the Apostles' Creed:
"I believe in one abductor..."
