I recently emailed my MP, Therese Coffey, re this case. Today I've received a reply on expensive headed notepaper with House of Commons log etc sent to me with Royal Mail 2nd class post. Why does she do this when an email reply would have been instant and cost her nothing? And the contents of the letter were hardly worth her bother, but then I suppose she is paying (sorry, correction, WE are paying) for something to do it for her - two sentences: 'I have received your email regarding Madeleine McCann. This is not an area which I intend to get involved. If you wish to contact the Police or Crown Prosecution Service on this matter, I suggest you do so yourself.' She wasn't due to get my vote next time round and that response certainly doesn't make me want to change my mind.

What these morons don't seem to understand, despite having been told it by umpteen posters, that a letter to an MP does not get read by them unless it is considered necessary for a personal answer. I reackon the PA read it, drafted a reply - one she knew was acceptable to the MP, sceretary typed it and PA got the MP to sign it. In the case of the PM there is a slew of security measures to follow and it is most unlikely that the PM will ever actually read the letter. Prioritise is the name of the game and an ill-written load of bile would never get past the agency secretary opening the mail and sorting it into piles as to its relevance and need for a personal reply or the basic acknowledgement of receipt.
