Hi Laura.

It's just a pathetic little site (with probably 2 or 3 members) **WRONG**, that has a sole purpose to try and rebuff anything detrimental said about the McCanns.

They spend their time monitoring forums (like this) and twitter, to try and counteract literally absolutely anything that puts the parents in a bad light. **WRONG**

It's one of the most ridiculous things I have seen on the Internet. (can think of another, actually) **WRONG**

If it wasn't about getting truth and justice for poor Madeleine, then it would be truly laughable.

Lizzy Hideho Taylor The PJGA fund has been in place since 2009 to cover legal costs involved and has successfully helped during the trial

The GoFundMe account was set up to help the APPEAL. Once the PJGA deemed they had sufficient funds for the appeal they closed the GFM account.

The PJGA fund is still open for donations for any legal costs incurred in the future.

Nowhere have they claimed more money is very much needed, and in the future if there IS a need they will likely reopen a GFM account for that purpose. All donated money left over will go to a Portuguese Childrens Charity

This fund is run by friends of Goncalo and is available for anyone to donate or one can choose not to donate. There is nothing sinister about it. Its a fund...they receive money and use it for legal costs. There is no legal obligation to indicate how these funds are used, especially considering the outrageous claims, it would make sense to remain silent until the case is over and then maybe we will learn more.

Ultimately, the donations are used in an effort for justice and that is what the fund is all about.

Can I just please clarify a few things to do with the fund for Goncalo Amaral please
The go fund me page only is closing NOT the PJGA official fund
Please note people are welcomed and encouraged to donated to this fund still as funds are still needed and any excess will go to the children's charities once all legal fees are paid
I've received this information direct from Portugal today from those involved in the fund
And there will be a press release soon confirming this
So please do keep giving via the PJGA site links to donate provided below

A fund run by faceless people, for a man who tried to make money from an abducted child, where donations were made up - as Ms greaves admitted.

Where 2 payments of £4,000 appeared on the same day and where one of them mysteriously disappeared?
Where The Sun and it's journos made a donation only for it to be Ms greaves misrepresenting them?
Where one donation was split into 4 from people who knew nothing about it so that others would be encouraged to donate?
Where one member was outed as not having paid into the fund?
Where people were told not to mention the woman who set the fund up again?
Where a mysterious group in Portugal took over the Fund? And then closed it suddenly?
Where no accounts have been produced to tell the people donating where their money is going, as a matter of courtesy?
Where people are told there is enough money and then that more is needed?
Where donators used fake and made up names, plus the names of real people who would never donate to such a fund?

Outrageous claims? Hardly.

Truthiness, there was still two payments of £4k there at the end. Anonymous of course.

And as said above, the suspect for the very large donations (petermac) has left around the time the fund was announced to be closing.

Perhaps he was opposed to the fund closing? Or learned something worrying about his money (if he is responsible for very large donations).

This is a lot of money to donate from one person (if true). Someone donating £13k of personal funds may feel entitled to some authority and if refused......................?

Or perhaps he learned something which made him feel very foolish?

For reasons that are remaining very quiet, the friends and supporters of former “Maddie cop” Gonçalo Amaral have called time on the gofundme online appeal set up to fund his legal expenses as he challenges the court decision ordering him to pay the parents of Madeleine McCann over €500,000 in damages.

The Legal Defence for Gonçalo Amaral page will be closing on Wednesday, October 28.

At time of writing, it had already raised over €69,860 and donations were still coming in.

The latest, as of lunchtime today (Thursday), was for €100.

Over the last five months, 2,757 people have responded to the gofundme campaign, set up by a young single mother from Birmingham who was only 14 when Madeleine went missing.

Leanne Baulch, 22, explained to us back in May that she had never imagined the response her initiative received, but she felt compelled to do it as she was “desperate to help” a man she felt was being “persecuted”.

But as the money flowed in, so too did the unpleasantness, including slurs in the British press that the fund was powered by “sick online trolls”.

With Ms Baulch considering her position as a single parent of a toddler, she removed herself from the process altogether a few months ago.

The fund then transferred into the hands of the friends of the former PJ detective whose book, “A Verdade da Mentira”, landed him in the hot seat of litigation - with all his assets, including bank accounts “frozen” - in 2008.

Unpleasantness appears nonetheless to have continued, with internet manipulation of the appeal’s online code so that a few weeks ago, it virtually disappeared from sight (see http://portugalresident.com/online-intr ... tter-pag...).

Now those in charge of the fund have decided it should close.

Using the headline “Sufficient” - which translated into Portuguese also stands for “Enough” - they have said: “We believe that it is time to close the gofundme page, as the bank account currently stands at an amount that seems largely sufficient to face eventual future expenses”.

A source has confirmed to the Resident that other forms of fundraising remain open, while Amaral’s fundraisers are aware that whatever the result of the latest appeal being considered by Lisbon’s Appellate Court, litigation will continue.

“If Amaral is successful, for example, we remain fairly certain that the McCann’s would appeal that decision. And so it continues. The next step would be the Supreme Court and then after that the Constitutional Court”.

And should Amaral lose the fight which he feels centres on his right to freedom of expression then a new online appeal will be needed to fund a case against Portuguese justice in the European Court of Human Rights.

Thus, for now, it is a case of “serenely awaiting” the next judicial decision, while Amaral’s supporters are no less determined to keep funding avenues open.

Sending out the latest message to subscribers, the group of friends writing collectively said: “May we use this moment to wholeheartedly thank those who have expressed their support for Gonçalo Amaral’s right to an appropriate defence. Whether you have contributed financially or by sending a support message, you have made an impact. You have made a difference. Thank you so very, very much”.

As we wrote this article, more donations flowed in as the six-day countdown to closure begins.

Meantime, fund organisers continue to confirm that they will donate any money left unused on legal expenses to a Portuguese children’s charity.

To break the News (gently), there aint a cat-in-hell's chance of the case going to the European Court of Human Rights, even by the McCanns should Amaral win his appeal.

I believe there is one more court in the hierarchy of Portuguese courts, but if the court hearing Amaral's appeal rules exactly the same as the court that has already found in favour of the McCanns, the case won't even get that far.

The McCanns will be outright winners at first instance.

In the meantime, I notice that "the" charity has now reverted to singular (before it was plural) and still no mention of a name.

Why is that?
