SYKES' TAKE ON - VERDICT, THREATS AND GRUBS

Yesterday the verdict some would have us believe the world was waiting for with bated breath was handed down in a coroner's court and it was, as many expected, death due to a concoction of drugs, alcohol and helium gas, self inflicted, in other words, suicide. Amongst the information revealed in court was the sad fact that the deceased suffered from mental health problems and had attempted suicide before. In the courtroom, besides the normal public, was a collection of grubby voyeurs, salivating at the thought of hearing revelations of what actually happened, which in their minds veered all the way up to, and including, murder. One of then was warned, TWICE, about her behavoir. Meanwhile, online, distorted versions of what was actually being said began to appear, courtesy of one of the grubs using her/his iPad or smartphone to relay updates; luckily however, the truth of what was said etc began to appear in the papers soon after the end of the session. After the verdict was handed down, we had the unedifying sight of the leader of the grubs, followed by her thug 'cameraman', accosting someone she identified as an enemy and demanding answers which, I am happy to report, she didn't get. After the verdict was in the online threats began of stalking, camping outside houses, burning down houses, targeting the journalist who spoke to the deceased, the police, the coroner etc. A note to the leader of the grubs, you really should dress properly for court and try and behave like a lady - we laughed all the way home, especially at one of the genuine reporters wanting to know who the hell you were, which must have been a real blow to your esteem, imagining yourself as you have stated many times, as an international journalist.
