Last Saturday a Malaysian Airlines aircraft, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing vanished. As time elapsed and there was no sign of wreckage or any idea of what happened, the nastiness started online with comments regarding Kate and Gerry McCann and the missing plane. In the same way as the jibes and snidy comments re the Boston Marathon tragedy flooded twitter etc, these ones escalated and are still being posted up. There are none re the fact that 239 passengers and crew are unaccounted for, nor any sympathy for the relatives waiting on news of whether their loved ones are dead or by some miracle still alive, just virulent filth. They do say what goes around, comes around, so let us hope that some day these inhuman creatures suffer such a tragedy - but I doubt it will really touch them and their cold stony hearts. Also in the week we are subjected to an ongoing diatribe from a 'celebrated internet author' on twitter and forums, most of it making no sense until a screenshot appeared where she admitted to smoking marajuana, which stunning revelation immediately explained to the somewhat bemused readers that she is under the influence, one might say, of weed. I believe the description of such a person is a hophead. Perhaps she would be advised to check what weed does to the brain of the smoker, especially someone whose mother had, she tells us, severe mental problems. As it is now the weekend, I am sure we can expect more from her and lots from the assorted drunks that invade the social internet space. However, let us also hope that there is good news re the missing aircraft.
