Sharon Osbourne blasted by missing Madeleine McCann's parents after she brands them "insane" for leaving girl alone

Kate and Gerry hit back at 'ignorant' 'Ill-informed' star after she accuses them on TV

Outspoken star Sharon Osbourne has been blasted by the parents of missing Madeleine McCann after she branded them “insane” for leaving their daughter alone.

Former X Factor judge Sharon made the hurtful claims on her US chat show The Talk as she criticised parents for leaving children without supervision.

In a clear attack on Kate and Gerry McCann, Sharon said: “I will tell you a very quick story. There was a husband and wife on holiday in Portugal.

“They left their baby in the room sleeping, sleeping while they went to dinner in the restaurant.

“While they were in the resort their baby was taken. And it is like, ‘Oh but we can see everything that is going on’ and it is, like, insane.”

The comments on Friday’s CBS show have outraged Kate and Gerry.

A family friend said: “It’s very disappointing when someone with such a high profile makes this sort of ignorant, ill-informed comment.

“She should think about the effect it could have on Madeleine’s brother and sister, as well as the wider family.

“Kate and Gerry have never forgiven themselves and this should not have been aired in a random way, as it apparently was.

“It’s based on ignorance of the true facts. While she’s entitled to her view she should keep it to herself.”

Maddie was snatched from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007, days before her fourth birthday and has never been found.

Kate and Gerry were with other parents at a restaurant a few hundred metres away and the adults took it in turns to pop back to check on their kids.

Sharon, 63, and her panellists were discussing a thread on Mumsnet social media site. A British woman had asked if parents would leave a 10-month-old child sleeping peacefully at home for seven minutes.

Another questioned whether it was acceptable to leave a baby sleeping while they picked something up approximately 50 metres away.

Reacting to the suggestion, mum-of-three Sharon said: “This is insane. It is like so many things happen in just a second. If you leave a candle on and the curtain blows on it and it caught on fire.

“And I think of all these scenarios in my head and there is no way in a million years that you would ever do that.”

Kate and Gerry, of Rothley, Leics, have previously admitted being plagued by guilt over missing Maddie

Days after her abduction dad Gerry said: “Hindsight has proven we made a mistake and we would never leave the children again.”

And as Kate launched her book, Madeleine, in 2011, Gerry said: “Blaming us takes it away from the abductor. Someone stole a child. Of course we feel guilt. But it doesn’t bring the child back. So we tried to take control of things you can influence, to help the search.”

Kate said: “People say, ‘Why didn’t you get a babysitter?’ Having a babysitter implied there was a risk situation and we just didn’t see it like that.

“We didn’t think it was necessary. It wasn’t to save money.”

But she later added: “It goes without saying that we now bitterly regret it.” Cardiologist Gerry has also said: “Who’s thinking about child abductions in a little sleepy out-of-season tourist resort?

“It never entered our minds. We felt very safe — it was a family resort.

“At home you put your kids to bed and go off and do things about the house and garden and don’t think about it.

“We were checking on our kids only metres away. After, we were consumed with guilt. But we can’t change it.”
Sharon’s publicist was approached for comment but did not respond.

But the star – in talks to return to The X Factor – faced a backlash from the families of other missing children.

Sandy Davidson, three, vanished in Irvine, North Ayrshire, in 1976 after trying to catch his dog which had run loose. He had been playing with his sister Donna, who is now 42. Last night she criticised Sharon, saying: “The McCann’s have been through an horrific ordeal and comments like this are unhelpful. People like this should stop passing judgment.

“I’ve met Kate a couple of times and we share their pain. They are victims.”

Meanwhile Nicki Durbin, who is friends with the McCanns, has spent 10 years searching for son Luke, 19 – last seen in Ipswich after a night out.

Nicki, 47, said: “If you had to walk in our shoes, then perhaps your perception would be different.”

Sharon is currently dealing with marital issues over claims rock star husband Ozzy, 67, had a fling with LA hair stylist Michelle Pugh.

Hours before her chat show Ozzy was seen with Sharon and their dog Bella, jumping into a car in Beverly Hills.
That's rich, coming from a woman who brought up her kids up with a father that takes drugs and walks around like a zombie ! She has no right to open her gob as her family isn't perfect.   And now he is putting it around with, apparently, 3 women.

Her appalling child-raising skills are far more reprehensible than the McCanns making one bad mistake. She somehow failed to notice that her son Jack was an alcoholic drug user before he was 15 - but she sees fit to set herself up as a Perfect Parent. Her daughter was in and out of rehab, and now makes a living making bitchy remarks about other women, despite her own rather peculiar appearance. Sykes

Stacey Mcwilliams Her kids are junkies as she threw them into spotlight at a young age and they couldnt cope. They have battled all sorts of addictions and she lived with a man who took heroin in her household and ate bats. Can she call anyone insane?
Yes, that just about sums her up. Mayhap she's enraged by Ozzie making her look a fool yet again, with a younger woman, and took her temper out on the McCanns? Or has a book out? Or has fallen out with her plastic surgeon?
From Wikipedia, an example of Sharon Osbourne's behavoir:
Osbourne has sent her son or daughter's feces in Tiffany boxes on more than one occasion to people she felt had unreasonably criticised her or her family. When a journalist criticised her teenage children, Osbourne sent a box of excrement with a note saying "I heard you've got an eating disorder. Eat this."

Sharon Osbourne is way out of line to lay into Kate and Gerry McCann as ‘insane’ for leaving Madeleine

    WENDY TUOHYHerald Sun

Sharon Osbourne has controversially criticised Madeleine McCann’s parents for leaving their daughter alone.
FEW if any parents are beyond criticism for every single thing done or not done in the course of raising their children. Madeleine McCann’s parents, Kate and Gerry, absolutely included.

Taking a swipe at another person’s parenting is always risky but having a go at a family still gripped by the loss of a child, as Sharon Osbourne has, is beyond insensitive. And I’m glad she’s being taken down on social media for it.

The reality TV star all but blamed the still-grieving McCanns for the disappearance of their toddler, Madeleine, who was abducted from the family’s holiday unit in Portugal nine years ago.

Speaking on a US chat show, Osbourne said it was “insane” for the McCanns to have left their children sleeping in the apartment while they were dining with friends 50 metres away.

She was commenting on a question a mother posed in a blog forum asking is it OK to leave her sleeping child at home to go to a store “50 yards” away.

In her answer, Osbourne chose to raise the abduction of Madeleine nine days before her fourth birthday.

“There was a husband and wife on holiday in Portugal. They left their baby in the room sleeping, sleeping while they went to dinner in the restaurant,” she said.

“While they were in the resort their baby was taken. And it’s like, ‘Oh but we can see everything that’s going on’ and it’s insane,” Osbourne said in a taping of the show The Talk.

Actually, it was a decision any parent could have made without factoring in a completely unforeseeable and freakish crime that would not cross the minds of all but the most paranoid.

The McCanns and their friends were taking it in turns to check on the sleeping children in the sleepy holiday destination.

A child could just as easily be taken from your home by someone who climbed in the front window while you were gardening in the back as from an apartment within your line of sight.

What happened to that family is tragic and as rare and random as a lightning strike. What possible use could it be for Osbourne to criticise these people whose search for their daughter has never paused?

Apart from it being callous and hurtful to lay something that could absolutely not have been predicted at the feet of Madeleine’s still-devastated parents, it breaks the basic rule of parent-on-parent comment; never take another parent down for something you could just as easily have done yourself.

Up until not too long ago parents left sleeping babies in their prams lined up outside supermarkets while they went in to do the shopping, and while no one would do that now it was never considered a life-threatening risk when it was common.

A relative of the McCanns has said that Osbourne’s comments were ignorant and ill-informed, but to my mind they were just heartless.

This family should not have their ongoing pain hashed up in talkshow content by a woman whose main game is self-promotion.

As with so many other innocent parenting choices that end up in disaster, were most parents to be honest the McCanns’ awful tale is a case of “there but for the grace of God go I”.

    Comment from Myths with thanks.
I don't know why they have to keep bringing it up to be honest, the McCann's have said what they did was wrong they said the wished they had never gone out and left them, they said they would never leave them again, what more do these people what for gods sake!!! I think they just enjoy being nasty it's 'hey look, I've never had one of my children abducted, I'm a better parent than you'. When Sharon Osborne has brought drugs into her family and some of the things she says are totally disgusting for her children to listen to, who was she saying she'd give a BJ to for something or other, the woman is far from decent, and Katie Price, well where do you start. They just need to STFU pointing the finger at parents who are suffering from the loss of a child. Pick on the abductor instead that's the evil scum who went into an apartment and took an innocent child from her bed, but somehow that seems to get forgotten.
