SYKES' TAKE ON - A NEW BOOK DUE AND THINGS ARE HOTTING UP

I suppose it was inevitable - someone would write another book on the mystery that is Madeleine MCann. The latest, which is due out in September this year, is by two Pulitzer Prize nominees, one of them is also a Nobel Prize winner, and is said to be an in-depth look at the case by two people who are not involved in the razzamatazz that has gone on now for over 7 years. Both these authors are well renowned for non-fiction and extremely researched and detailed books on varied subjects. I would have thought that a totally unbiased look at all the evidence might be a good thing, but apparently not. As at today's date the book has not yet been put on sale but already the anti McCanns are tearing into it - quite an achievement when they haven't actually read it. Others also saying their piece is a soi-disant 'profiler' miffed that the authors didn't have an in-depth interview with her. She also wondered why they didn't interview Amaral, the answer to that being that we all know what he has to say via his 'book', his TV appearances and assorted interviews. After all, would one get a straight answer from someone convicted of a crime and slung out of the police force? And now, just to add to the mix, an anti, known as the Orange One, and decidedly toxic to boot, is now claiming to be going to write a book, while on his not-forum a failed solicitor has admitted that he was contacted by the authors in March, agreed to their answer their 19 questions, in so far as he was able due to legal constraints placed on him by the courts after his conviction for contempt, on 4 April and in Mid-July posted them up for all to see. The usual threats are popping up on twitter, fb and forums and searches are being made to prove something, anything, that is detrimental to the authors. Is he a Mason? Are they Catholic? Do they live in a 20 bedroom mansion? Drive Jaguars? Own a yacht? Own a tropical island? Contacts with organized crime? The list is endless and will increase in idiocy as the publishing date approaches. Keeps the plebs happy, I suppose, and a breathing space for the normal members of this overcrowded planet. And there has been a further descent in vileness with photos of the Mccann twins at the Commonwealth Games being splashed all over twitter. It sure looks like things, which have been a bit slow recently, are about to pick up so, folks, hang on to your seats, it's going to be a bumpy and nasty ride. Tin hat and flak jacket, anyone?
