Maddie detectives fly to Portugal for talks: Officers urge counterparts to investigate leads involving three burglars
EXCLUSIVE: Scotland Yard officers hold three-hour meeting in city of Faro
They want Portuguese counterparts to investigate three burglars
Phone analysis shows they were 'very close' to the McCann's apartment
Madeleine McCann vanished from holiday flat almost seven years ago

Scotland Yard detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have held an important meeting with Portuguese counterparts that they hope will lead to a major breakthrough in the case.
Four Met Police officers met with senior members of Portugal’s detective squad, the Policia Judiciaria (PJ), in Faro, to urge them to carrying out inquiries identified by the British investigation known as Operation Grange.
The detectives had arrived in the Algarve on Monday afternoon and held a three-hour meeting, starting at 10am today.
The Met officers held talks with the head of the PJ in Faro, Mota Carmo, and Ana Paula-Rita, the coordinator for the PJ office in Portimao, whose jurisdiction covers Praia da Luz, in the hope of gathering new evidence.
British police want to interview three burglars who have been identified as prime suspects in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in May 2007.
Analysis of mobile phone data suggests the men were ‘very close’ to the holiday apartment in Praia da Luz when the three-year-old vanished.
It also indicates they made an unusually high number of calls to each other in the hours that followed her abduction in 2007.
A source close to the PJ told the Daily Mail: ‘The British police came to Faro for a meeting at 10am.
‘They talked for about three hours and then went for lunch.
‘The British are desperate to interview three burglars that were in Praia da Luz at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance.
‘But they are also urging the Portuguese authorities find new evidence against the burglary suspects that could lead to arrests.’
Portugal’s Public Prosecutor Jose Magalhaes e Menezes has said his office will not be ‘an obstacle to solving the Madeleine case’.
The Portuguese authorities reopened their own investigation into the youngster’s disappearance in October last year.
Madeleine, who was then nearly four, disappeared from her family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in the Algarve on May 3, 2007, as her parents dined at a nearby restaurant with friends.
It is now known that between January and May 2007 there had been a four-fold increase in the number of burglaries in the area.
Police said in October last year that in the 17 days before she disappeared there was one burglary and one attempted burglary in the block where the McCann family were staying.
Kate and Gerry McCann on tenterhooks as Scotland Yard begins new swoop on Maddie kidnap suspects believed to be burglary gang
Madeleine McCann’s parents were said to be “on tenterhooks” as Scotland Yard detectives looked set to swoop on three suspects after flying to Portugal.
Anxious Kate and Gerry were being kept “fully informed” of events after learning of the dramatic breakthrough in the bid to solve the six-year riddle of their missing daughter.
A source close to the couple said: “Clearly the fact that the police are out there is significant. Kate and Gerry will now be on tenterhooks as they wait for any potential developments.
“The Met are being very pro-active and this is good news in the search for Madeleine and her abductor.”
The source revealed that Kate and Gerry, both 45, of Rothley, Leics, were cautiously hopeful about the latest move. He said: “It is necessary for British police to request the Portuguese authorities allow them to operate on their turf. It means they have the intention of arresting and interviewing X, Y or Z.
“Whether the Portuguese will co-operate remains to be seen. It is a very sensitive issue with differences they have had.
“Kate and Gerry don’t want to build up their hopes but they realise it could be a significant new lead.”
After arriving in the Algarve yesterday the Yard team held a secret four-hour meeting with senior Portuguese officers and prosecutors. The discussions are believed to have centred on getting local officials to sanction the arrests and
subsequent questioning.
The breakthrough follows a cold-case UK review involving a painstaking trawl through mobile phone data.
It has pin-pointed three men who are said to have been very close to the scene when three-year-old Maddie was snatched from her family’s holiday apartment at the resort of Praia da Luz in May 2007.
The records also indicate the suspects, believed to be a burglary gang, made a high number of calls to each other in the hours following her abduction.
Det Chief Insp Andy Redwood, who is leading the UK hunt, arrived at police headquarters in Faro just after 10am clutching two bulging box files.
He was accompanied by three colleagues for the meeting with Luís Mota Carmo, the director of the Polícia Judiciária.
Mr Carmo heads a team of six Faro detectives who have been carrying out work on behalf of Scotland Yard.
The Mirror revealed earlier this month that the Crown Prosecution Service had sent an International Letter of Request to Portuguese police seeking permission to question the new suspects. Portugal’s attorney general’s office confirmed last week that it had received the letter.
An insider said of yesterday’s talks: “It’s the first time the UK and Portuguese police have met since the request was made.”
He added: “The investigation is at a sensitive stage and it remains to be seen what action will be taken by the Portuguese police.”

HoH0's LOT FOAMINMG AT THE MOUTH
She wasn't 'being clever', nor was she 'shocked' - more likely she had the phone on speaker and they were all shrieking with laughter.
tephen Farrant
Just seen this on Sky...an ex Met Officer and Murnaghan slagging off the PJ again and Murnaghan asking "why didn't the PJ look at these mobile phone records". No mention of the McCanns deleted phone mesages and call logs!
=====
Lisa Edington That is disgusting! off to make a complaint
======
Lisa Edington Complaint made by phone! Told them it was not in the interests of Sky News to broadcast misinformation with regard to the Portugueese Police handling of the case. I also informed them that the PJ did in fact have all phone records for the entire group and that they had also deleted calls and texts from their mobiles. All of which is documented in the official released files. The woman said, thinking she was being clever, 'so have you seen these files to back this up?' To which I replied, well yes I have and anyone is able to view them. She was shocked to say the least!
Comment from another forum with thanks.
Laughing at the armchair defective, more like, as said armchair defective clearly HASN'T seen the relevant files.
Hasn't it sunk in yet? All the time they spent staring at phone calls made by the McCanns and their friends was a total, complete waste.
Those calls are of no relevance whatsoever, and the Yard/PJ knows it.
Gonzo failed to notice that other people in PdL besides the McCann group had cellphones, or if he knew, didn't care, and didn't bother doing any investigation there.
Like the armchair defectives, he was obsessed with the total irrelevance of deleted calls from loft insulation companies etc.
For their own sakes, the McCann-haters really should wake up and smell the coffee - though it's very entertaining when they make prats of themselves by meddling when they haven't a scooby what they're talking about.

MORE INSANITY FRON LISA EDDINGTON
Lisa Edington Email to Adam Harding, Editor at Sky News Dear Mr Harding,
After watching the news and seeing Dermot Murnaghan making slanderous comments about the police in Portugal not looking into the phone records in the Madeleine McCann case, I am frankly at a loss for words. I find it absolutely abhorrent of him to make such claims in a case that is so high profile, which from day one was hindered by the McCann's themselves and also the British authorities.
The Portuguese police followed every procedure in the correct manner, even though they were constantly being held back by either lack of help by the parents of Madeleine or by the authorities in the UK.
I would ask you to just look at one example of the investigation in the link below, which clearly shows that the phone records were in fact looked into very thoroughly, and you will notice on this link that Kate McCann deleted certain calls and texts from her mobile phone! What on Earth was she thinking when her daughter was missing? Surely, she should have been out searching the streets for Madeleine?
I would like to hear your views with regard to the misinformation pertaining to the slanderous comments made by Mr Murnaghan as a matter of urgency.
Regards

Yup. These people just don't realise that Sky News, the Beeb etc, know all about them and their FB hate-groups.

From Myths with thanks.
TVI knows that the rogatory letter also requests for searches to be carried out and bank accounts to be analysed.
Remember the story about the €100,000 that turned up in a GNR officer's bank account? The story Morais wouldn't let anyone talk about?

Maddie: PGR [Attorney General's Office] has already received letter from the British police
[VIDEO in link above]
by Marisa Rodrigues
29.01.14
The three men that the British police wants to question worked at the Ocean Club, in Praia da Luz, at the time when Madeleine McCann disappeared.
They made several phone calls on the night of the 3rd of May of 2007. A number of calls to other people that was considered to be high and abnormal. This is what makes them persons of interest.
TVI knows that the rogatory letter also requests for searches to be carried out and bank accounts to be analysed.
The document has already arrived at the Attorney General's Office and will be sent to the Court of Portimão. The diligences will once more be handed over to the Judiciary Police.
It's the second time that the detectives ask for help, through a rogatory letter, for the ongoing investigation in England. Everything suggests that it will be the same inspectors, from Faro and Portimão, to carry it out.
The calendar for the diligences now has to be defined by the police forces from both countries. The British detectives may come to Portugal, but only to accompany the work that has to be performed by the Judiciary Police, on the terrain.
TVI knows that the rogatory letter also requests for searches to be carried out and bank accounts to be analysed.
Remember the story about the €100,000 that turned up in a GNR officer's bank account? The story Morais wouldn't let anyone talk about?

Coco is right about that irony of lies and slander. Typical of that lot though and they wonder why the media and others think they are vile sickos.

Cheers, Broho - I nicked the dynamite gag from a workmate some years ago (it always comes in useful when talking about the haters).
Hounders are too thick to get the irony of what they are doing... I am just waiting for the day when someone in the media decides to do a proper expose, naming and shaming them for what they are.

It's inevitable that the media will do that too. They have done a few but you can imagine the wealth of material they hold on them.
Tick tock.

Madeleine: UK Police Fly Home From Portugal
A Scotland Yard team flies home after visiting Portugal following a request for help with interviewing three suspects.
British police have left Portugal after liaising with local officers investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
A Scotland Yard team flew to the Algarve after British authorities sent a letter to Portuguese police requesting help with tracking down and interviewing three burglars who were in the area when Madeleine vanished.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, who is leading the investigation for the Metropolitan Police, was pictured arriving in Faro with three colleagues.

They held meetings with senior members of Portugal's Policia Judiciaria and are believed to have discussed leads recently identified by the Operation Grange investigation team in the UK.
On Wednesday afternoon the officers were pictured at the airport heading back to the UK.
Sky's Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said the letter requesting help from the Portuguese authorities is understood to have arrived in Portugal in the last couple of days.
He said: "Four detectives from Scotland Yard arrived to meet their Portuguese colleagues - there's a small team of Portuguese police working in the Algarve on behalf of Scotland Yard.
"It's certainly not the first time Scotland Yard detectives have visited Portugal - more than a dozen times in the last two years since Scotland Yard have been reviewing and then investigating Madeleine's disappearance has such a team gone to liaise.
"But it could be of some big significance because we know that earlier this month the UK authorities sent what's known as an international letter of request to the Portuguese authorities seeking, we think, help in interviewing three potential suspects."
Earlier this month, Sky News reported that a police team were hunting three men whose phones were "red hot" after Madeleine went missing from her family's Praia da Luz apartment in May 2007.
Mobile phone records show that the men made numerous calls to each other in the hours after Kate and Gerry McCann discovered their daughter - three years old at the time - had disappeared from her room.
No arrests have been made since the Met set up Operation Grange in 2011 to review the case.
Portuguese police reopened their investigation last year, more than three years after it had been shelved.

It's the opposite of seeing the PJ arrive in England a few years back. Hard to remember it has been that long and Madeleine is still missing.

Quote from article: It is believed the PJ team in Oporto uncovered shortcomings in the initial investigation conducted by their counterparts in the Algarve and were now actively pursuing the theory that Madeleine McCann was abducted from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.
Helena Monteiro and her four-man team of detectives, who were reportedly handed the case due to their expertise and neutrality, having never worked on it before, are also reported to be keen on speaking to a number of people who were never questioned during the first investigation led by inspectors in the Algarve.
At the time, sources close to the case in Portugal told The Portugal News that they support the Portuguese review in that they hope it will conclude “an investigation which was ended while still in its infancy.”
PJ police in Lisbon recently stressed in comments to The Portugal News that at this stage of the review, the PJ branches in Oporto and Faro are “working independently.”

Re: UK POLICE ARRIVE IN PORTUGAL
Interesting observation from Myths with thanks.
Wonder if anyone has thought of checking Gonc & his teams' bank statements & financial dealings around the same time. There is really no explanation for him & his underlings not having properly investigated staff & former employees FIRST, instead of almost immediately focusing on the parents as suspects. Seem to remember some talk about property dealings & Golf Club development involvement long before Madeleine was taken as well. That's a bit over & above the financial means of most humble police officers in the Algarve AFAIK.

It is a fact that full moons have often been associated wth occult activity. The Lunar Society is one such example - the collection of late eighteenth century great scientists and engineers of the day who used to meet covertly in Birmingham every full moon, the full moon often aiding their journey by coach and horses to their clandestine meetings. They were carried out in secret partly because one of their raisons d'etre was to attack faith in the God of the Bible. I think Darwin's grandfather may have been a Lunar Society member at one time.
A 'blue moon' is where there are two full moons in one month (as occurred in many places in May 2007). Some occult societies pay particular attention to carrying out their rituals on a blue moon night.

I think Bennett and PaedoMac should go on the X-Factor doing Blue Moon ...the dinga-dang-dongs might be a bit much for PaedoMac though.
