I hope it hits him like a ton of bricks when it finally sinks in just how much he has let them down.
He should be concentrating on putting things right with them first. I think he's too far gone in his obsession though.

You have to remember that he is possibly rather unhinged, to put it politely, so I
don't think his family is top of his priorities. Unfortunately.
