In the last few hours we have seen a planned stunt to try and get attention, and funds, for Goncalo Amaral - the sacked, disgraced failure who decided to try and rescue his long-standing disastrous financial situation by writing a book which would whitewash him and blame the parents.

After donating £1000 of his own money, retired 'detective' (his exact role in the police is unclear) Peter Macleod, who runs a guest house in Spain and who is very well known to those who follow the case, was worrying about the way to go forward.

In one of his regular donations, he commented

'We need a big benefactor, high profile donor to show the world that this is serious'

Macleod had repeatedly played on his alleged 'detective' background to get coverage in the press, make representations to Parliament, and carry out an on-the-spot investigation with notorious Trucrime hackette Pat Brown in Praia da Luz. (He famously managed to demonstrate that the shutters of the bedroom window of 5A CAN be opened from the outside, after denying it for years.)

Over the last few days, donations appeared to be drying up. Meanwhile, tweeters winked that there were 'projects afoot'

Peter Macleod failed to find his big donor, but he had a wizard wheeze. His friends would make smaller donations, he would collate them and no doubt be very generous again, and then he would make the donation in the name of an anonymous group of policemen. Baulch was probably in on it - she can see who has made the donation and where the money comes from.

Every single one of their demented followers has fallen for it hook line and sinker.
It's got the money rolling in again, and has given the impression that officers from the force investigating Madeleine's disappearance support the sacked cop who screwed up the investigation 8 years ago.

Personally, I would like to see this fraudulent stunt investigated.

It is very dodgy they are claiming to be serving officers, but the more the better. There will be an injunction at some point and it will all go to pay off his tax debts, brother, ex lawyers, mccanns etc.

It's a big fat fib. It screams 'fake'. But it's designed to make the McCanns believe the force looking for their daughter think she's dead, and that they did it.

    It's a repugnant deception.

Awwww bless they even used the term sio, that's a dead give away of a real professional that is, or at least someone who watches too much tv and thinks that's how police officers speak in ordinary conversation. Shame the great detectives don't seem to realise that amaral has not been sued for his behaviour as coordinator, but for his post retirement job as author. In fact the Portuguese courts ruled he abused his former status to pass off speculation as fact. It's just embarrassing to think these idiots are a product of British education.

Peter MacCleod and his cohorts think they've pulled off a clever stunt with this fake "MPS" donation, but all they've actually achieved is to expose their shallow fakery and rampant prejudice.

No self-respecting serving or former police officers would lend their support to a failed and disgraced one time detective whose investigation has been shown to be flawed and shambolic; who has been convicted of perjury; whose personal life and finances are chaotic and shameful; who has a current judgment against him for libel - all of which apply to Amaral. Nor would they defy the opinion of their own police service and of the PJ that the McCanns are not suspects in any crime currently being investigated by both police forces.

Intelligent people can see through this fraudulent donation as easily as they could see through many other donations from "Charles and Camilla," "Kate McCann," "Isabelle Duarte," etc. ......

I am a long since retired cop, and am going to donate a portion of my pension to help a colleague who has had most of his taken from him in a hypocritical and vindictive campaign. This appeal MUST succeed.
If he keeps these lies up he'll be donating his pension to fines etc, not to a sardine merchant! Sykes

Btw, there are one or two writing quirks which suggest a failed, shamed ex politician, ex solicitor, ex-human being known as Tony Bennett had something to do with the post that appears on the GoFundMe site.

Strangely, and in an even longer run of coincidences than that which saw a 'Met Police' whipround raise exactly £1000, Peter Macleod and Tony Bennett have been friends for many years, and regularly post on Jill Havern's awful site.

The one which Leanne Baulch joined 6 days ago, 5 days after Pete publicly posted on GoFundMe about the need for a high profile donor.

This whole stunt reminds me somewhat of a Blackadder sketch, where our hero comes up with a plan 'so cunning you could stick a tail on it and call it a weasel'.

Is making donations to a fund using another person or establishment's name against the law? Is anyone looking into this??

    urcrazy » Sun May 31, 2015 9:30 am
Aparently not, at least in the US where GoFundMe is based - they are fine with the trolling, as they have confirmed.

However the real British police are likely to be less sanguine, as the very 'without fear or favour' which Macleod/Bennett/Baulch quoted actually precludes them from showing any partisan interest in public.
