Last week letters were sent on behalf of a number of people who consider themselves to be victims of the alleged unfair and oppressive conduct of senior and well-known lawyer Edward Smethurst, to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (part of the Law Society) and to the Grand Secretary of British Freemasonry, based at their headquarters at Great Queen Street, London.
The complaint to U.K. Freemasonry was made by an ordinary member of the Freemasons in the east of England who was disturbed by the various reports of Smethurst's conduct and considered that his conduct was incompatible with the standards of behaviour expected by Masons.
The Grand Secretary has already replied asking the Worshipful Grand Master of the East Lancashire Provincial Lodge of the Freemasons to carry out an investigation.
A reply from the Law Society is awaited.
Any untoward conduct by Smethurst reflects badly on the McCanns, whose interests he has served so well for the past 7 years. It is hoped that if the McCanns should become aware of the reports about his alleged misconduct, that they will act quickly and ask him to make full restitution to those who have got valid grievances about the way he has behaved towards them.
And, as usual, trolleyman makes comments re the McCanns.

The Law Society has now responded to my letter.
As the response is marked 'Strictly Private and Confidential', I cannot say more at this time
That hasn't stopped him from posting up private and confidential information before - could it be the answer was less than favorable?
