Amaral has been babbling to the Portuguese press again about how it was Gerry McCann who spiked his political career.
Apparently he (Gerry) attended a meeting with the then head of his chosen political party, along with his lawyer, and together the two of them twisted this woman's arm up her back.

As a result Gonc's candidature for Mayor was binned, despite him being a sure-fire bet to win it, and despite all his usual cheerleaders making a fuss in public.
You can read all about this the first time it hit the newstands here

    http://www.mccannfiles.com/id131.html

You will soon see that his sudden and unexpected foray into politics wasn't entirely welcome. He had zilch experience, was controversial and had come straight from the police. Indeed the public reason for turning him down was that the party didn't wish to be seen as a revolving door for excops and that too close a relationship between the justice ministry and politics was undesirable.

Note notorious liar and scammer Duarte Levy is in there spinning and had already claimed a meeting with Gerry had taken place, but at this stsge he isn't claiming anything specific:
"In spite of the justification put forward by the party's national leader, there are those who suggest other explanations, notably the right of the British to vote in the local elections: "they (the English) have the right to vote in the locals, and they were not going to vote for the PSD anywhere if Gonçalo Amaral was our candidate in Olhão," an activist stated.
Gerry McCann's recent meeting, during his visit to Portugal, with a member of the PSD's national committee and the party's national leader's frequent visits to London, is not going to calm things down, even raising questions in the media. (Note: I can't find any such report, or any such questions being raised. It appears to be a Levy factoid).
According to a local party official, it is effectively "external factors," which dictated the dropping of the candidacy for Amaral, "who has an enviable CV," but the orders from Lisbon are quite specific: Gonçalo Amaral will not be the PSD's candidate in any town in the country."
So there you have it - the bones of Amaral's latest paranoid conspiracy against him. This has now been worked up into a full-blown 'I was robbed' pity-piece that has become his stock-in-trade.

(Astute readers will note Socrates making an appearance on that page - in a story about perfidious Albion requesting details of his financial dealings. And where is he now????)

Any political party of any worth would be unlikely to endorse the candidature of someone with a criminal record, and a record of financial irresponsibility - particularly a ex-policeman with such a record .....
