If they submitted material late tough. Doubt its anything significant, just a delaying tactic. Is there a time limit on cases he is hoping will expire or something?
Amarels supporters keep harping on about an ace that he is going to reveal at the last minute that will prove to the world what became of Madeleine McCann and that he will prove with this ace the McCann's are responsible. Their hatred of the McCann's is so great they can't see that this would put amarel in prison too. Withholding evidence is illegal, even more so if done by the investigating officer. What he would have had to have done is kept evidence that stopped Madeleine being found and treated with dignity, left siblings & extended family in the dark, left siblings with parents he "knew" to be responsible for death, let them walk free, let pdl lose tourism ,let Portugal and UK spend millions looking and conned his publisher into thinking he gave them everything and only revealed the evidence to save him from losing a libel case right at the end of the case. Do they think for a second that if amarel had an ace he might have put it in his book or programmer even if not to PJ, and do they think if he admits to withholding evidence he won't be in prison and losing everything faster than you could say most hated man on planet. He would be crucified as much as the McCann's.

They've Joined the Dots and Made Connections:

So we have a Murdoch family production telling us, definitively, that the McCanns are 100% innocent. Then on the same day we have Fox news (another Murdoch production) telling us that the UK police know precisely who the real perps are, but unfortunately can't actually name or arrest them. All on the same day that the libel trial verdict should have been handed down.

Damage limitation, which wasn't actually needed due to the adjournment, but that is exactly what it was.

Somebody's worried.

I do believe they are proving the entire point of the programme - that liars think everyone's like them, and conspiraloons don't see the truth, they think everything's a conspiracy.

They think Amaral is the most important person in the Universe, and every newspaper report, every TV broadcast, revolves around him.

They don't see him as the nasty, grubby, perjurer and fraudster he really is, as is a matter of record. Their whole value and judgement system is fatally flawed.

The following article appeared yesterday, January 8th 2013, in Dagbladet, a Norwegian left / liberal tabloid:

LISBON (DAGBLADET): Gonçalo Amaral (54) is the man who led the early investigation of Madeleine McCann's disappearance - the case that has engaged Europe for nearly seven years.

In many ways, he is the McCann family's worst enemy.
- It is hard to accept that I have to live like this just because I did my job, Amaral told Dagbladet.

Can't dispose my money
Amaral met Dagbladet for an exclusive interview in Lisbon just hours before he met in court to defent himself after the McCann's sued him for £1m for his accusations in a 2008 book.

The conflict between Amaral and the McCann's sparked massive news coverage in the British media. Gerry and Kate McCann have received millions in compensation and have had many journalists and newspapers apologise for their coverage of Maddie's disappearance.

In 2008, Amaral wrote the book «Maddie: A verdade de mentira» («The Truth of the Lie»), which broke all the records and was translated into eight languages. The McCann's had the book stopped by Portuguese court. They believed it violated their honor and their search for Madeleine.

The case was later dismissed by the Supreme Court, and the book went back on the shelves.

In the meantime, as McCann's wished, all Amarals assets were frozen. He now only gets enough money to survive, he said.

'I can't dispose the money from my book sale. I work a little as a legal adviser for a firm but I am only getting enough money to survive. I live in my dad's flat in Portugal', said Amaral.

Too much politics
He is upset about the flurry of rumours and theories that are still surrounding Maddie's disappearance.

This case has involved too much politics and too little police, said Amaral, who said he has had rough years after he left the police.

In 2007, he called the McCann's in as suspects. After having given their version of events, Gerry and Kate McCann were allowed to leave the police station. Two days later, they returned to England.

Shortly after, the controversial investigator was taken off the case. This happened after politicians on the highest levels in England and Portugal discussed the case, he claims.

Recently, Scotland Yard have gone public with material that suggest Madeleine disappeared following a failed burglary.

The police are calling for three unknown men.

'We put aside that theory a long time ago. There were no signs of an intrusion. The apartment was in good order - everything was where it should have been. Can thieves really have been frightened by a three-year-old - and taken her with them? Nothing at all suggests so', said Amaral.

Dagbladet have contacted the McCann's Portuguese lawyer, Isabel Duarte, through her secretary, where Amaral's quotes have been presented. Duarte did not wish to comment.

We heard about the postponement on Monday. The filing of documents took place between Friday afternoon and Monday, as far as I know.

Gonçalo Amaral's lawyer filed a request for the court to evaluate the McCann couple's legitimacy to file a lawsuit in their daughter's name, as she is a Ward of Court in the UK.

He did not ask for any postponement. It was the judge that issued a 15-day deadline for him to submit the relevant documentation.

Afterwards, Dr Isabel Duarte filed a document that is related to Mr Alan Pike, and asked for a postponement of Tuesday's session.

This information is not covered by judicial secrecy and can be freely shared.

After much anticipation it appears that amarels one and only ace turned out to be that after she disappeared Madeleine was made a ward of the court, a fact only known to the Portuguese police, the UK police, the Millons who read Kate's book, anyone who has access to the online PJ files, anyone familiar with abduction cases etc. In short the entire western world.

Madeleine's grandfather said the kids at times were given sleeping pills to sleep better.

Well, I didn't know that. Can anyone verify this? Who did he say that to?


This is absolutely the first time I have heard this and it would change everything if true.

Why do people keep talking about Gonçalo Amaral having an ace up his sleeve? This is a libel trial not Perry Mason. I'm sure that he must know other things about the investigation that is not public as do the other persons involved in the case but none of this would be relevant to the trial.

Goncalo Amaral was not made to write a book.

He did so simply to get back some of the honour he felt he had lost by being booted off the McCann case.

Back in October 2007 this is what happened from Amaral's own words in his own book. He blundered. He blew his cool. He did what he knew would get him the boot from the case and from his post in Portimao.

In the evening, while driving, I receive an unidentified phone call, the last straw... A journalist asks me if I want to comment on the subject of the email. Whether due to the difficult day, the raging storm or the fact of driving through rain...I lose my cool. I reply, irritably, without thinking, that the message is of no interest and that it would be better for the English police to occupy themselves with the Portuguese investigation. Even as I am hanging up, I realise that I have not only made a blunder, but I have been unfair towards the majority of the British police who have helped us throughout these difficult months. I drive on, certain that I have triggered a diplomatic incident with predictable consequences: as soon as these simple words are made public, I risk not being able to continue to direct the Portimão Department of Criminal Investigation.

He was an intemperate fool who destroyed his own career. It all started with that one action and was compounded as the years went on.

Within three months of being booted off the McCann case and being re-assigned to other work, Amaral was already in discussion (Jan 2008) with publishers about writing his account of the Madeleine Story.

Whilst working as a police officer he wrote his book between January and July 2008 as a way of retrieving his honour.

Then he deliberately chose to give up his police career (did he realise that it was going nowhere) in a bid to go for glory and promote his writing career based on the (by now rather outdated) ideas he had about the disappearance of Madeleine. He didn't outline the proof of his ideas (because none exists), but merely proposed a thesis which claimed that the McCanns had deliberately misled the police and had been involved in the death and disappearance of their daughter. He was making claims that cannot be supported with evidence.

But he embarked on this new career with gusto. He had chosen to throw off the shackles of being a policeman and was living the life of Riley making large profits from his unproven claims about the McCanns. IT WAS A DELIBERATE DECISION ON HIS PART TO CHOOSE TO GIVE UP HIS JOB AS A POLICE OFFICER TO SEEK THE RICHES OF STARDOM AS THE COP WHO KNEW WHAT HAPPENED.

Slowly his thesis grew more wings such as the greater emphasis on the role of the British Government in his downfall and the twisting of simple statements as in the bizarre happenings in his video version of his first book. Then a second book came out which must have been so poor that none of his devoted fans could even be bothered to offer it even in summary, never mind full translation.

There were promises made that the initial book would appear in the UK or even the US but this never materialised (almost certainly because lawyers for publishing companies there would have seen immediately that it was indefensible in any libel action). Goncalo must by now have been realising that the wealth and glamour of publishing what amounted to an unsupported series of accusations against the McCanns was not such a good idea.

He tried his hand at legal work, at publishing books and sections of books which dealt with legal issues and child abduction but even in Portugal it was becoming clear that he was tainted by his desire to make money out of the disappearance of a little girl.

And the libel case had begun. Perhaps he thought he was invulnerable back in Portugal, that the McCanns would not dare challenge him there because of the difficulties involved in fighting a legal case overseas and in particular the way in which libel law in Portugal seems to favour the offender? But they did challenge him and it clearly came as a shock to him.

His assets were rightly frozen. It would have been an appalling travesty of justice had he been allowed to spend the profits of something which might later be declared illegal activity.

And then he began his 'pity me' tales. His poverty (when we know he still receives enough pension to live on, when we know his father took him in), his marital troubles (most women would be rather aggrieved if their husband had thrown away a good career firstly by getting booted off an important case because he couldn't keep his mouth shut and secondly giving up a good career to pursue some kind of honour revenge and to make a profit from a book that is likely to stir up big trouble).

Goncalo Amaral has only himself to blame.

And the most serious point about his actions is this: If he could have proved that what he stated about the McCanns was true, he would have done so. The fact that he has never done so is clear proof that he cannot. His thesis is simply that, an unproven revenge claim from a disgruntled ex cop who blames Madeleine and her parents for his woes but whose personal life was in fact in tatters long before the McCanns set foot in Portugal.

Anyone who wants to get to know the truth about Amaral should ask his brother who he defrauded and his wife who was forced to take action against him in law. And don't forget he was convicted of a criminal act in regard to another missing child case.

Saint Goncalo he ain't.
