The news that the BBC is to air the McCann case on Crimewatch next Monday has caused a big reaction. Those who want to hang, draw and quarter Madeleine's parents are lining up to try and outdo each other in comments that are quite appalling. Thery are revelling in all the old nasty suggestions made long ago on now defunct sites, dredging up comments from the most evil of the haters etc. They are also spamming the BBC, the Metropolitan Police facebook, twitter and so on. One of them, already found guilty of contempt and under a court order to cease and desist, is putting up photos etc on the forum he doesn't *cough* run, while the one who spoiled the posters in Praia de Luz is making demands to know why the child's parents have not issued a photograph of Madeleine's bedroom, kept as she left it, with her mother looking suitably anguished. Some are asking why there was no filming in the house in Rothley; why should there be as the event took place in Portugal, not the UK. There are threats to bombard the telephone lines after the program which may well stop genuine callers, possibly with information, getting through. They are already sending complaints to the BBC even before the program has been aired. And now, to make matters worse, the Portuguese people will not see it as no-one there has taken up the chance to show it. This seems very strange to me; the people of Portugal are as affected by the case as the people of the UK - could it be the government over there are afraid to let their citizens see it? And why are those who hate the McCanns so afraid of the program being shown at all? Could it be that something may come out that will collapse their house of cards, built as it is on shifting sand?
