Disgraced ex Portuguese police chief Goncalo Amaral profits on 10th anniversary of Maddie McCann's disappearance.

Shameless ex Portuguese police chief Goncalo Amaral has cashed in on the 10th anniversary of Maddie McCann’s disappearance with a controversial TV interview.

The ex cop is thought to have been paid £10,000 for the prime time broadcast, which will show sensitive previously unseen crime scene pictures.

Amaral, 57, who whined last week that the investigation cost him his marriage and his son, used the interview to again point suspicion at devastated Kate and Gerry McCann.

The programme called “Maddie, the Enigma”, airs tomorrow on prime time rolling news channel CMTV and he is expected to repeat his wild theory Kate and Gerry were involved.

The unseen pictures taken from the apartment were also published in a preview article by Portuguese Sabado magazine.

They show the bedrooms in apartment 5a of the Ocean Club in Praia da Luz where Maddie disappeared from on May 3 2007.

In one a tape measure is seen leaning against a wall showing the bedroom window where Maddie is thought to have been snatched from.

Another shows a travel cot in the lounge of the ground floor apartment where Maddie's twin siblings Sean and Amelie, now 12, slept.

Lisbon based TV station CMTV took Amaral back to Praia da Luz last week and he is seen walking the street outside the apartment and then heading down to the beach looking out to sea.

In his interview Amaral suggested the key to the murder was the church where Kate and Gerry prayed while the search for Maddie went on.

He said: "We had information that three figures were seen going into the church in December 2007.

"They had a box and there was to be a cremation later of a British citizen. It is possible the remains of the child were in this box and cremated as well."

His interview will provoke fresh anguish for grief stricken Kate and Gerry as he insists pressure was put on him from superiors to treat the case as a kidnap when he wanted to focus on them.

The couple, who live in Rothley, Leics., were made formal suspects in the case in September 2007 but the investigation was later dropped - much to Amaral's fury.

Amaral claims his officers found no trace of a forced entry and in another dig he insists when cops arrived at the scene Kate was screaming "We abandoned her".

He was eventually booted off the bungled investigation and in his interview even revealed how he had been held up for an hour the night Maddie disappeared due to roadworks.

Amaral insisted said: "The line to follow in this investigation should have been the parents."

He also dismissed Scotland Yard chief Mark Rowley's revelation last week that a significant lead was still being investigated describing it as "false".

And in a further attack on the McCann's he said: "They always have a powerful permanent PR machine ready to preserve their image."
