AN INTERNET troll has been convicted of stalking a child abuse campaigner from Colchester.

An interim restraining order has also been granted banning the obsessed defendant from having any contact with the victim or her family.

Mother-of-eight Penny Mellor, 53, of Coven Wolverhampton, who is herself a child abuse campaigner, was convicted by a majority of ten to two of stalking Shy Keenan and harassment causing serious alarm and distress.

She sent hundreds of abusive tweets about Ms Keenan making several wild accusations.

Mellor is now banned from contacting Ms Keenan and her family and of posting anything about her, her family or her book Broken including on the internet.

Mellor has also been told she will have to pay a significant proportion of the costs which are already more than £16,000.

Judge David Turner QC will sentence at a later date after Mellor asked for time to get psychiatric tests on herself.

She also told the court she plans to appeal, following the verdict at Chelmsford Crown Court.

She was convicted following a six month campaign against Ms Keenan from October 2012 to March 2013.

A new stalking law came in at the start of 2013 and in the next three months she sent 239 tweets to or about Ms Keenan.
